E-scooter

E-scooter riders are now appearing everywhere. Here in New York City the current laws ban the sale and use of gas-powered motorized scooters, but exclude electric scooters as long as they are no faster than 15mph.

Riding an e-scooter is a fun way to get around. E-scooter stands for electric scooter but is also used as a model name by a Chinese manufacturer. This is an important distinction to make: the Chinese brand E-Scooter should be avoided, while e-scooters (electric scooters in general) like the Pacelite 701 should be embraced with a great deal of joy.

E-scooters are electric powered (battery operated) stand-up or sit-down scooters. E-scooters vary in performance, allowing for speeds from 8mph to 38mph (none of our electric scooters surpass 15mph.) The range of an e-scooter can be anywhere from 3 to10 miles per charge. E-scooters vary greatly in weight, covering the range of 19lbs going all the way up to 292lbs (although our models max out at 65lbs.)

When selecting an e-scooter make sure you are looking for quality: in the world of electric scooters, you get what you pay for. Inexpensive e-scooters (typically any Chinese made scooter) are mostly sold by businesses with no replacement parts in stock and no repair shop to (very frequently) service the unit. Trust us, we know, we have people coming in all of the time looking for our help to repair these items as they were unable to get any customer support or parts from the manufacturer or dealer. You will spend much less money in the long run if you buy a quality e-scooter and you'll be able to enjoy it the minute you get it.

The listed specifications on a low priced e-scooter are always very creative, like "15mph top speed on a 200 watt motor" or "20 miles per charge on a 8 amp-hour battery pack" or "will fly you to the moon on nothing but wags of puppy tails." To put it simply, those numbers are impossible (though we hear a company is working on a scooter powered by the wagging of puppy tails.)

So, to reiterate, save yourself lots of headaches and go for a quality e-scooter. Browse our selection, which you can find here.

Our retail shop is located in New York, NY (in the Upper East Side) and we offer test rides and full service on the entire line of Goped, HCF and LashOut e-scooters.

Electric scooter drive belt

Electric scooter drive belt adjustments are important to the health of your scooter and maintain your safety. Your electric scooter drive belt will not last very long if it's too tight, too lose, or rubbing on the side of the motor pulley. If your drive belt is too loose you will also drain you batteries at a quicker pace, lose range, and experience a drop in torque.

Your electric scooter drive belt is one of the few parts that needs frequent replacement. The electric scooter drive belt is designed to last for about 2 years of normal use - heavier riders, lots of stop and go, improper alignment/tension and riding in hilly areas will wear down your electric scooter drive belt a bit quicker. Inexpensive scooters come with lower quality and narrower belts. Buying your electric scooter drive belt at NYCeWheels will get you a HTD type belt - the highest quality available, the same quality drive belt used in the automotive industry as a timing belt.

When installing your electric scooter drive belt make sure to align it in such a way that it does not touch the sides of the sprocket. Grab the electric scooter drive belt on its edges (about halfway between the sprocket and pulley) and twist it at about a quarter turn; no more, no less.
This is the correct tension for your electric scooter drive belt.

To see our full selection of electric scooter drive belts, click on 'Parts' and then 'Drive Belts' on our menu to the left.

electric skateboard

The electric skateboard, model Exkate Powerboard X-24 was what Bert (the shop owner) rode to work every day for a good priod of time. He lives on 87th street and the shop is located on 84th street. Going straight to work would take him about 4 minutes on the electric skateboard, but his rides would usually last up to half an hour due to some extra venturing. According to Bert "after 2-3 blocks towards the shop I tell myself one more block... one more block... one more block... just one more block. I usually turn around and head back towards the shop after completing the lower loop in Central Park. Most days I traded my lunch break for a ride on my electric skateboard."

The Exkate electric skateboard is not for the faint of heart: the one horsepower motor propels your electric skateboard to 16-18mph in under 4 seconds; it will reach a top speed of 22mph on flat ground, and will climb hills at good speeds as well. The electronic brake will bring your electric skateboard to a stop in about 20 feet, which is important in New York City or any area that features traffic. Bert weight between 185-190lbs and he gets a solid 10 miles on a charge, including the stopping and starting associated with riding, to give you a point of referece.

The Exkate electric skateboard will recharge in about 3 hours if you'v run it all the way down. Bert: "On Sundays I'd usually carve around the park and end up on the West Side for brunch. I'd make it a habit to bring my charger with me on weekends - so the electric skateboard was always plugged in while brunching. After brunch I'd head towards the Lower East Side to visit some old friends for a few hours and head back uptown - 80 blocks nonstop NYC pothole slalom an a electric skateboard : )" Please forgive Bert's use of an emoticon.

If you like skateboards, roller blades, snowboarding or anything that involves speed, balance, and adrenaline the Exkate electric skateboard is for you. (We wouldn't recommend these for children however.)

motorized scooter

Motorized scooter: a few words. A motorized scooter is any device with two or more wheels, with an electric motor or gas engine on it. Since we are a bunch of Birkenstock wearing tree huggers we will talk about the clean, reliable, quiet and fun electric powered version of the motorized scooter. The electric motorized scooter is the perfect solution for urban commuters. The more portable versions of the motorized scooter include the Amplifier A7 at 39lbs, the Citybug e2 at 31lbs and the Pacelite 701 full suspension motorized scooter. The A7 has a range of around 4-5 miles, the others do about 8 miles. (we have larger batteries for the A7 as well) Any of those make a perfect motorized scooter to blend with public transport. The Amplifier has the strongest motor for big guys or hilly commutes, the Pacelite 701 has front and rear suspension and delivers the smoothest ride of any motorized scooter, the e2 is the easiest to transport - even then battery pulls out in 2 seconds. If you do not need your motorized scooter super portable you can go with one of the larger models like the Vego 600, Pacelite 707 or the Charly. Those are considered full size motorized scooter. Top of the line right now is the Vego motorized scooter, 18mph top speed and around 14 mile range. The next great quality motorized scooter down the line is the Pacelite 707 topping out at 15mph (speed upgrade available) with 8 mile range per charge, and then there is the Charly motorized scooter. German made, no need to say more - we call it the Mercedes 13mph / 13 mile range. I also want to mention the street legal motorized scooter e.g. Lepton, EVT 4000 or eGo Cycle. The Lepton motorized scooter is probably the best quality machine, the EVT 4000 is the quickest and the eGo the most affordable motorized scooter.

Going straight to work would take about 4 minutes but I was not able to make it in less than 25 minutes yet. There is nothing wrong with the motorized skateboard - but after 2-3 blocks towards the shop I tell myself one more block ... one more block... one more block...just one more block. I do even the steepest hills at no less than 14mph (eats up those guys on the 5K racing bicycles) The electronic brake will bring you to a stop in around 20 feet, kind of important in New York City. I weight between 185-190lbs and get a solid 10 miles on a charge including stop and goes and the steep hill on the top loop in Central Park. I believe you can get up to 15 miles on a charge (flat run with no headwind and no hills) The Exkate motorized skateboard will recharge in 3 hours if you run it all the way down. On Sundays I usually carve around the park and end up on the west side for brunch. I make it a habit to bring my charger with me on weekends - so the board is always plugged in while brunching. Need a Father's Day Gift?

Growing up, there was nothing more difficult than buying a Father's Day gift. It seemed like my dad was content with anything, so I would just run through the Sears power tools catalog every year and check off whatever we didn't have yet. Had I known about the types of bikes and scooters at NYCeWheels, Father's Day would probably be a bit more exciting.

Guys love speed. An easy gift that fulfills the Fast and the Furious, as well as the daily commute, is an adult kick scooter. He'll get something he can use every day for years. Our most popular brand is the Xootr kick scooter. Believe me, they're fast. If he has kids that like to scoot around the park, this is also a great idea to keep up with them.

A good bicycle is always a great gift idea. If he has been thinking about riding a bike, but doesn't have the space, a folding bike will solve the problem. We carry folding bikes in different brands, variations, and styles. Whether he's an avid cyclist, or hasn't been on a bike in twenty years, there is a folding bike that will work for him.

If your dad just doesn't like to put energy into pedaling anymore, but still loves the summer breeze, an electric bike is a great gift. We have over twenty models of electric bikes in our store, from easy-riding beach cruisers to aggressive, powerful mountain bikes. You can even electrify his favorite bike with an electric conversion kit.

Stop in and check out our selection of folding bikes, electric bikes, and scooters. Father's Day has never been this much fun!

The motor is automatically turned off when you stop pedaling or operate the coaster brake. Benefit: When using this sensor technology neither driving licence nor insurance will be obligatory.. Scope of supplies: 24V or 36V motor for rear or front wheel installation Twist-grip with cable Sensor 1 battery box (NiCd 24V, 7 Ah or 36V, 5 Ah) with charge state indication External control Rapid charger Luggage carrier to hold up to 2 battery boxes Connection cable between motor and control (only for front wheel installation)
