In 1938, an Austrian company released the original Styriette, a gas-powered bicycle that predated other motorized bicycles by over 30 years. This unique bicycle had a beautiful classic design, high quality components, as well as a dynamic and powerful motor. It was truly ahead of its time. When it debuted at the Vienna spring fair, no one realized that its influence would resonate over 70 years later with a generation of electric bike riders.
Looking to reinvent this ground-breaking design, the engineers at BionX have developed the BionX Styriette Electric Bike. Retaining the original Styriette's standard of excellence, BionX decided to push the envelope a bit with their brand new 3-speed Integrated Gear Hub (IGH3) motor. This new design contains both a 3-speed internal geared hub, as well as a powerful 350-watt motor inside the hub of the rear wheel. It packs a similar punch to its antique cousin.
Bionx Styriette features:
Sporting a similar frame design to the original Styriette, the BionX version has updated many of the components to the new millennium. The lights are now LED-based and draw their power from the BionX rear-rack battery. The hydraulic disc brakes offer the best stopping power for any rider, and the rear hub contains both the powerful 350 watt motor, as well as an internal 3-speed gear hub. Each component on the BionX Styriette is of the highest quality.
The operation of the BionX Styriette allows the rider to simply pedal while the motor responds with automatic assistance. There are four levels to choose from, as well as a highly responsive throttle. Need to squeeze a few more miles out of your trip? Use the regenerative braking, or set the BionX console to "regenerate mode" and charge the battery while you pedal. It's one of the longest range electric bicycles in existence.
The BionX Styriette electric bike is available as a top-tube design, or a step-through frame. Both styles come in three sizes, so anyone can ride a Styriette. Of course, it also requires a certain level of class and distinction, but that can develop over time.
