Electric bike selector, the perfect bike for me

Electric bike questionnaire, pick your perfect ride - get a professional review and recommendation.

So, you're looking for an electric bike but you're not quite sure where to start or what questions you should be asking. Worry not! Our electric bike selector will walk you through all of the major questions you should be taking into consideration in the process of determining what bike best suits your needs.

Once you answer all of the questions and click the button to submit them, someone on our staff will personally review your responses and then email you with a small selection of bikes to choose from, with their recommendations and an explanation on why they made them. Please make sure your email address is correct and we'll get back to you within a business day.

Let's Get Started!

Rider's Height:
Great things come in small packages, I am 5'4 or a bit less.
I'm somewhere between 5'4 and 5'8. I understand that not every frame size will fit me and that certain models are more ideal for me than others. (If you want the bike to be versatile so you can share it with your whole family, select this option. Smaller frame bikes can always be adjusted to fit taller riders comfortably, but a larger frame bike can only be adjusted so much for shorter riders.)
I'm between 5'8 and 6' 2. I understand that this means I will be comfortable on most of your bikes with the right adjustments made.
I'm 6'2 or taller.

Rider's Weight:
I weigh under 160 lbs. I understand that any bike will support my weight.
I weigh between 160 lbs. and 200 lbs. I understand that this means almost all of the models will still work for me, but models with more powerful motors and pedal assistance might suit me best depending on what my uses for the bike are.
I weigh between 200 lbs. and 250 lbs. I can expect a little less range per charge. I understand that this means I will be limited in some of my options, and I would be best suited with a more powerful motor and a pedal assisted system.

Style of Electric Assistance:
I like to pedal! I'd prefer a system that offers me electric assistance as I pedal, making pedaling effortless or just plain easier, depending on how I have it set. This will also give me the best range per charge. If I am a heavier rider, plan on lugging around any additional weight, or live in a very hilly area, I understand that this option would suit me best.
I want a throttle! (Although I acknowledge that I can't completely avoid pedaling.) I understand that relying heavily on the throttle will cut down my range per charge and that I will get the most out of my system the more pedaling I choose to do. The throttle can be a useful feature if you think you might need to rely on your bike's power much more than your own for short distances if you've become very tired or if some aches and pains have really started acting up.
No preference, either way, as long as the other options fit.

Seating Position:

I'd prefer a very comfortable bike that lets me sit mostly or completely upright as I ride. These bikes are generally hybrids with height adjustable handlebars and comfortable, wide saddles. In one case there is even a beach cruiser style frame. These bikes are generally a bit heavier and slower than the sports bikes.
I'd prefer a sportier ride, where I'm leaning forwards a bit more, in a slightly sportier riding position (but not leaning forwards as much as with a road bike by any means.) These type of bikes are lighter and faster.
I don't really care that much, as long as the other options I pick work for me.

Ease of Mounting:

I need the bike to have a step-through frame, for ease of getting on and off of it. This is the best option if you are sharing your bike with others.
I don't need the bike to be exceptionally easy to mount, I prefer the more rigid ride a top-tube frame provides.
I don't really care about the frame type as long as the other features match my selection.

Distance:
I require the ability to travel up to 15 miles per charge, or would at least like the ability to do so. Most electric bikes can go that far without much pedaling.
I will be exceeding 15 miles per charge. I acknowledge this will require constant but easy pedaling and can easily be achieved by most pedal assisted electric bikes. There are some dual-battery electric bikes available, but most of the throttle-activated bikes can achieve this with a fair amount of pedaling or by bringing a spare battery along (which will double your range per charge.)

Hills:
I live in an area with mostly flat ground or moderate hills.
I live in an area with very steep hills and lots of them. I'll need a bike with high torque.

Storage:
The size of the bike is irrelevant to me, as I have a garage or another spacious area in which I can keep it.
Space isn't too much of an issue, but having a more compact frame wouldn't hurt.
I need the bike to be very compact for storage and transport. I need to be able to put it in the trunk of my car. I'd like a folding electric bike!

Weight of the bike:
I need the bike to be lighter! I plan on lifting it and bringing it up stairs.
The weight of the bike is not very important.

Top speed:
I'm not looking to win any races here, 15 to 16 mph will do just fine. This is plenty of speed for urban riding in which car traffic is present.
I want to go as fast as possible (20 mph is the federal speed limit for electric bikes)
I don't care, as long as the other options fit my selection.

Cost of Bike:
I would like to stay around $1000 to $2000.
I would like to stay around $1800 to $3000.
I just want to get the perfect electric bike, price is not that important.

Ready-to-Ride electric bicycle or electric bike conversion kit?:
I would like a ready-to-ride electric bike with all of the electric components already integrated into the bike. I don't want to be required to install anything.
I have no preference, choose whatever fits my selections best.
