If your BionX system does turn on but doesn't function properly we can definitely make some headway in figuring out what may be wrong. For some of these you need to know whether you have a G1 or G2 console. If you're not sure, check here. Choose from the symptoms listed below to get started:
1. Battery charges but the console doesn't show a full charge
2. Regenerative braking doesn't work
3. Throttle doesn't work
4. Assist doesn't work
5. Bike is stuck in regenerative mode
6. Display is fragmented, doesn't look right
7. Motor assists but doesn't give good power
8. System cannot be turned off
9. Assistance feels like it is pulsing
10. Pressing the throttle makes the bike go into regen mode
If you're not seeing what you think is the correct reading on your battery gauge please follow our instructions to Calibrate BionX Battery Gauge.
When regenerative braking doesn't work check and adjust the BionX brake sensor.
This is usually easy, all you need to do is a BionX throttle calibration.
Proceed with instructions to troubleshoot when BionX kit does not assist.
First try to adjust the BionX brake sensor.
Then check for for BionX motor resistance. If you find resistance you'll have to return your motor to BionX for repair or replacement - depending on the circumstances and your warranty status. If NYCeWheels is your dealer please submit a BionX System Analysis Form.
In most cases this can be solved by closely checking your BionX connections. If this doesn't solve the issue you should contact your dealer for further assistance. If NYCeWheels is your dealer please submit a BionX System Analysis Form.
If you haven't already checked your axle notch orientation and all connections please start here. If you still have a problem once you've completed these preliminary steps continue below.
Speedometer reads less than 18 mph
If the motor doesn't spin up to 18 - 20 mph, check console code 3773 to confirm the maximum speed and contact your dealer for further assistance. If NYCeWheels is your dealer please submit a BionX System Analysis Form.
A note on speed/power of the BionX:Acceleration and power are hard to gauge and are relative to rider weight, terrain, battery power, etc. Basically it's a slightly different experience for each person.
Some important BionX facts and misunderstandings:
In some rare cases the BionX will get stuck in the ON state and the power button will do nothing, not shutting it off. The console will remain lit up unless it is removed. The standard "countdown" that usually happens when the system is powered on will not happen and the battery gauge will show empty.
Checking the Battery: Remove your battery from your bike and set it aside somewhere in ear shot. Normally after about 20-30 minutes it should go, "Beep, Beep, Beep" and shut off. If the battery does not beep after 30 minutes of being disconnected from the bike there is a problem with the internal controller in the battery and it needs to be sent to BionX for repair or replaced with a new one.
If NYCeWheels is your dealer please submit a BionX System Analysis Form.
Please follow our instructions to adjust pulsing assist from BionX.
