If you want to get riding as soon as possible buying a stock Brompton is definitely the way to go. Don't spend weeks waiting for a custom order! Best of all - we can modify it to be as close as possible to what you may have wanted to custom order! Some of these options are a few dollars more expensive than the custom order but think of it this way - time is money and when the weather's good you want to make the most of it!
Why would you change the gearing? Increasing or decreasing the gearing on your bike will help suit it to the type of riding you want to do. Reducing the gearing is very common for folks who have a lot of steep hills in their area. Increasing the gearing is less common but if you're a strong rider it will equip your bike for faster speeds and higher performance.
Why add a rack to your Brompton? Adding a rack is something we get asked to do all the time. It add extra space to carry stuff on your Brompton and makes the bike more stable when it's folded up. That's because a bike with a rack rests on 4 wheels when folded which forms a broader and more balanced area of contact than a bike with fenders (which just has 3 points touching the ground). We always recommend getting Eazy Wheels when you get a rack. They're larger and add ground clearance for when you roll your bike in the folded position.
