I've spent enough time in New York City subways to know all the ups and downs of commuting with public transportation. The waiting, the standing, the lack of personal space. Everything about commuting via the subway puts me off, that's why I've started a folding bike commute. Every morning I have fresh air, sunshine, and a little bit of exercise to get my blood flowing. Every night I have a cool breeze, the stars, and a nice ride home to blow off steam. Switching to a folding bike commute is the best thing I've ever done.
A folding bike commute is much more relaxing
It's easier than you think to join the ranks of folding commuter bikes. One of the best parts a folding bike commute is that you can combine your ride with other modes of transportation to tailor it to your needs.
You need not ride 20 miles each way if there is a less crowded subway or bus line part of the way in to work. Simply combine that section of your folding bike commute with public transit and be sure of always getting a seat. And if you are too tired or just don't feel like riding one direction, no problem. Simply pack up your folding bike and cut your folding bike commute in half. Riding the subway may even seem novel after several months of fresh air.
In truth, once you have started your folding bike commute you'll wonder how you can ever go back. That's part of the reason so many people become folding bike addicts, it's just so catchy and relaxing.
Folding bike commute vs. the NYC Subway... hmmmm
When I think back to my days of riding the subway 30 minutes or more in each direction I almost cringe. I can't believe I got up everyday, gulped down a cup of coffee as I ran to the subway entrance, rushed to jam my arm into the closing doors so I wouldn't be late and then stood shoulder to shoulder with 5 to 6 strangers as we all tried our best to keep our balance as the noisy car jerked down the tracks. Why would anyone want to do that?
The longer I've been working with folding bikes the more I've come to realize most people don't want to do that, but they don't know there is another way.
With a folding bike commute you can be happier, healthier, and more energized than ever. And all it really takes is owning a folding bike and being dissatisfied with your current commute. Of the two of those owning a folding bike is usually the only one most people need to work on.
